Travelling from Britain towards Russia by coach needs a different approach from most European journeys. Reaching a Baltic city is one part of the trip; finding an onward service, checking the border arrangements and confirming that you can enter Russia are separate steps.
In practical terms, this page explains how to assess an overland journey, rather than offering a guaranteed London to Russia coach connection. Old Eurolines timetables and fares should not be used to plan a current trip.

How travelling to Russia by coach works
Start by checking the international section into Russia. There is little value in booking a coach to Riga or Tallinn until you have established that an onward service runs on your date and that its border crossing is suitable for your documents.
Once that section is confirmed, work backwards towards Britain. Compare the journey to the Baltic interchange city, the time between coaches and the cost of any overnight stay. The following is a planning outline, not a confirmed timetable:

Lux Express publishes arrangements for services between Saint Petersburg and Tallinn or Riga. Its guidance describes both pedestrian transfers at Narva–Ivangorod and a Tallinn service via Luhamaa–Shumilkino. Check which arrangement applies to the departure you are considering.

The ECOLINES timetable system lists Riga–Moscow services. A route listing alone does not confirm that a departure is available on your date. Check the live search and ask the operator about the route, border crossing and arrival stop before booking.
FlixBus – the European part of the journey
Use FlixBus to search the section between Britain and your European interchange city. Do not assume that a ticket to the Baltics includes onward travel into Russia.

Narva–Ivangorod: a pedestrian crossing
The Narva–Ivangorod crossing is closed to vehicles but open to pedestrians. On services using this arrangement, passengers cross on foot and continue on another coach. Check the operator's current meeting points and instructions, especially if you have heavy luggage or need mobility assistance.
Other crossings
A service using another crossing can have different arrangements. Confirm the crossing with the operator rather than assuming that every Tallinn or Riga departure follows the same route. The Finland–Russia land border is currently closed; do not plan a coach connection through Finland on the basis of an old timetable.
Border queues and checks can substantially delay arrival. Keep any onward booking flexible and allow a generous buffer. Where separate tickets are involved, consider an overnight stop rather than a tight connection.
EuropeBus Tip: Check the return journey as carefully as the outward trip. Permission to enter Russia does not establish your right to re-enter the transit countries or the UK.
Journey times, fares and separate tickets
There is no reliable single fare or journey time for every UK to Russia itinerary. Add together the actual coach sections, transfer waits and any overnight stops, then allow for uncertainty at the border. EuropeBus does not publish a fixed price or a guaranteed arrival time for this journey.
Compare the whole cost, including luggage, accommodation and replacement travel if a separately booked connection is missed. Before paying, check:
- Whether all sections are included in one booking or issued as separate tickets.
- What happens if the first coach is delayed.
- The cancellation and change conditions for each ticket.
- The exact departure and arrival stops, and whether a transfer between stations is needed.
A single payment or booking reference does not necessarily mean that every connection is protected. Read the terms for the itinerary you choose.
Travel documents, insurance and payments
Entry requirements depend on nationality, passport, visa and the crossing used. British citizens need a visa before travelling. If you hold another passport, check the requirements that apply to you rather than relying on advice written for British nationals.
Confirm passport validity, visa conditions and transit requirements with the relevant authorities. Do not assume that an electronic visa, where available, is accepted at every crossing.

Luggage and boarding
Check the allowance for each coach section: a bag accepted on the European leg may exceed the limit on the next service. Keep essential medication, documents, water and chargers accessible, and be prepared to handle your own luggage during transfers.
If your service includes a pedestrian crossing, ask the operator about walking distances and assistance before booking. Check the boarding time on each ticket and download copies of your tickets and meeting-point instructions for offline use.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a direct London to Russia coach?
EuropeBus has not verified a current direct service. Do not rely on the former Eurolines itinerary. Check each section of a proposed journey separately.
Can I travel via Riga or Tallinn?
Operator information describes onward Russia services from these cities, but you must confirm a departure for your date and your eligibility to use its border crossing. This is not a guarantee of a complete connection from Britain.
Can I stay on the coach at the border?
Not on a service using the pedestrian Narva–Ivangorod arrangement. Check your particular departure's instructions before booking.
